Tooth Extraction (Close)
Careful, comfortable extractions when they are truly needed.
We remove a tooth only when keeping it is not realistic. Extraction is the last option, not the quick one — a natural tooth is always worth more than anything we can put in its place.
When a tooth genuinely has to come out
- Decay so extensive that nothing restorable remains
- A vertical root fracture
- Severe gum disease with too much bone loss to hold the tooth
- A wisdom tooth causing repeated infection, or damaging the tooth in front
- Retained baby teeth blocking an adult tooth
- Occasionally, to create space as part of an orthodontic plan
We will try to save it first
Before recommending extraction we will tell you what saving the tooth would involve — a root canal, a crown, gum treatment — what it would cost, and what the realistic odds are. Sometimes the answer is that a root-treated, crowned tooth will serve you for fifteen years. Sometimes it is that we would be spending your money to delay the inevitable by eighteen months. You get the honest version either way.
What the appointment is like
- Full local anaesthesia, tested before we start.
- Careful loosening. Modern extraction is about patiently widening the socket rather than force. You feel pressure, not pain.
- The tooth is removed and the socket is cleaned.
- A stitch, sometimes, and gauze pressure until bleeding stops.
- Written aftercare instructions, plus our WhatsApp number in case anything worries you that evening.
Most single extractions take 20 to 40 minutes including the anaesthetic.
Aftercare that matters
- Keep gentle pressure on the gauze for the first 30 to 45 minutes
- No rinsing, spitting or straws for 24 hours — that dislodges the clot
- No smoking or naswar for at least 48 hours; this is the biggest cause of a painful dry socket
- Soft, cool food for the first day
- Painkillers as directed, and cold compresses for swelling
- Start gentle warm salt-water rinses from day two
- Brush the rest of your mouth normally
Message us if pain worsens after day three, if bleeding does not settle, or if you develop a fever.
After the tooth is out
Front and chewing teeth leave a gap that will cause the problems described in our [dental bridges](/services/dental-bridges) page. We will talk through replacement options at the time of the extraction, not months later.
Cost
Simple extractions start at Rs 3,500. Surgical and wisdom-tooth extractions are quoted after examination and radiographs.
